Fake Call Centres Busted in Delhi, 14 People Arrested By Cyberabad Police
Cyberabad police seized 30 cellphones, three laptops, a car and a bike from the gang members.
Telangana: The Cyberabad Police on Thursday busted 'fake' call centres in New Delhi and arrested 14 people, including women, for allegedly duping people by posing as employees of a state-run bank's app-based loan platform.
"A major cyber scam has been exposed and gangs involved in scamming individuals through fake call centres have been apprehended," Cyberabad Commissioner of Police Stephen Ravindra said.
The fake call centres with the names SBI Dhani Bazar, The Loan India and Loan Bazar have swindled Rs 100 crores so far.
Speaking at a press conference, the CP said that the fake gang allegedly duped people of hundreds of crores through 33,000 phone calls across the country. So far, 14 people have been arrested in this cyber fraud case. Cyberabad police seized 30 cellphones, three laptops, a car and a bike from the gang members.
Stephen Ravindra said that the gang was extorting money from credit card holders by taking client details from SBI agents. The gangs duped the people by calling them from SBI customer care service through spoof call apps in the guise of verification callers and cheated them by making the customers share OTPs with them through which they made online transactions.
The CP also said they have arrested another gang involved in loan scams in the name of Dhani and Lone Bazaar. They had created a fake app, cheated the people on the pretext of offering loans, and collected huge sums of money in the name of processing fees.
