Congress Readies For Munugode Bypoll. Priyanka Gandhi To Discuss Strategy With Party's Telangana Leaders

The meeting is expected to resolve the issues between top campaigners Komatreddi Venkat Reddy and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Revanth Reddy

Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will hold a high-level meeting with Telangana Congress leaders in Delhi regarding the campaign strategy for the upcoming Munugode bypoll. The meeting was slated for Tuesday but earlier on Monday it has been preponed to Monday at 5 PM.

The meeting is expected to resolve the issues between top campaigners Komatreddi Venkat Reddy and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief Revanth Reddy. After her brother Rahul Gandhi becoming the MP from Kerala's Wayanad, Priyanka is likely to be made in-charge of two south states Karnataka and Telangana. Priyanka's shifted focus to south states especially Telangana and Karnataka is seen as a change the high command wants to bring in the Congress cadres.

Priyanka can contest elections too from the South. In the past, while Indira Gandhi had contested elections from Medak in Telangana, Sonia Gandhi has been an MP from Bellary in Karnataka.

The meeting will have the presence of Priyanka Gandhi, KC Venugopal, Telangana state Incharge and Member of Parliament Manickam Tagore, TPCC president and MP Revanth Reddy and other senior state leaders. Largely, the meeting is to focus on the working out of strategy for the Munugode bypoll but also the top brass of Congress in the state to discuss other issues with Congress national general secretary.

Meanwhile, as the Congress prepares to elect its new chief, many names are under consideration after Rahul Gandhi refused to give a second thought to his decision of holding no post in the party, sources have said.

The names doing the rounds are loyalists from the party, which include Ambika Soni, Mukul Wasnik and Kumari Selja. However, the party still hopes that Rahul Gandhi will lead the party, which is facing its worst time. Some people are also floating the name of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, but there is no clarity since she is looking after the tough assignment of Uttar Pradesh, where the party performance is near zero.
