ED Raids Against BRS MLC K Kavitha In Hyderabad Over Delhi Liquor Scam

Alongside the ED team, the Income Tax (IT) department is also present at the scene.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is currently conducting raids at the residence of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha in Hyderabad. Kavita, who is the daughter of former Chief Minister KCR, has been implicated in the Delhi liquor scam and has previously been summoned by both the ED and CBI for questioning.

Alongside the ED team, the Income Tax (IT) department is also present at the scene.

The 45-year-old leader from BRS did not attend the Enforcement Directorate's session on January 16 for further interrogation in the case. Citing a Supreme Court directive that she cannot summon Kavitha in the matter, she abstained from the proceedings.

However, sources within the Enforcement Directorate informed news agency PTI that the BRS leader had secured temporary relief from the apex court last year, but it is no longer applicable.

Before this incident, Kavitha was questioned on three occasions last year regarding the case. The probe agency also recorded her statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The BRS revealed its candidates for four additional Lok Sabha seats, notably including Nizamabad, which was previously held by party MLC K Kavitha. The development suggested that K Kavitha, daughter of BRS President and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, would not be contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Nizamabad, indicating a notable change in the party's electoral approach.

Kavitha represented the Nizamabad constituency as a Member of Parliament from 2014 to 2019. Despite her previous tenure, Kavitha faced defeat in the 2019 elections against BJP's Dharampuri Arvind. Presently, she holds a position as a member of the Telangana Legislative Council.

The selection of candidates came after comprehensive discussions led by KCR with BRS party leaders.
