WhatsApp Testing Third-Party Messaging App Integration To Comply With EU DMA

The Meta-owned messaging platform has been testing functionality for two years now which enables users to exchange messages, videos, images and files with people on other platforms.

WhatsApp is probably one of the most preferred and widely used instant messaging platforms. The company is dedicated to improving the experience of users. In order to make communication more efficient, it has been releasing continuous updates and trying new features to see how they will enhance the user experience. It is now planning to test another feature. In order to make communication more inclusive, WhatsApp is testing third-party messaging app integration to comply with the recently passed European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA).

The Meta-owned messaging platform has been testing functionality for two years now which enables users to exchange messages, videos, images and files with people on other platforms.

While the prospect of exchanging messages across different messaging platforms holds utility for many users, there exists a subset of individuals who may prefer to disable this functionality. Opting to disable cross-platform messaging implies that the user will lose the ability to send or receive messages from other platforms. In this state, their chats will remain accessible solely in read-only mode until manually removed.

As per a recent update highlighted by WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.6.2 introduces a novel toggle, allowing users to deactivate third-party chats within the application. Furthermore, there are indications that developers are actively working on providing users with the ability to choose specific apps that can communicate with WhatsApp, offering a personalised and customisable experience.

It's worth noting that this feature is currently in the developmental phase and is anticipated to become available to users within the next few weeks to a couple of months as the developers fine-tune and finalise its implementation.

WhatsApp Now Lets You Search Conversations By Date

Meta-owned WhatsApp has announced the rollout of a search-by-date feature for individual and group chats on Android devices. This functionality has already been accessible on other platforms such as iOS, Mac desktop, and WhatsApp Web. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted the announcement on his WhatsApp channel along with a video of him searching for an old chat about Karaoke.

Users on WhatsApp are limited to searching for chats on specific dates rather than being able to specify a date range.
