Huawei May Return To 5G Smartphone Market

Chinese tech behemoth Huawei may be looking to return to the 5G smartphone industry by the end of 2023, says a report by news agency Reuters. The US and Europe have deemed that Huawei poses a threat to their national security, which the company has denied. The US had imposed sanctions on Chinese firms since 2019 and the Joe Biden administration is looking to cut off Huawei from all American suppliers such as chip-making giants Intel and Qualcomm.

The smartphone giant is in the process of procuring 5G chips locally using its own advances in semiconductor design tools along with chipset-making firm Semiconductor Manufacturing International Co (SMIC), three third-party technology research firms covering China's smartphone sector were quoted saying by Reuters.

India Mobile Congress 2023 To Be Held In October

The seventh edition of India Mobile Congress (IMC), co-hosted by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) will be held from October 27-October 29 in New Delhi this year. The premier digital technology exhibition is an annual event and this year's theme is "Global Digital Innovation". The 2023 iteration of IMC at Pragati Maidan is expected to witness around more than 1 lakh participants, over 5,000 CXO-level delegates, over 350 speakers and love 400 exhibitors.

Data Protection Bill Likely To Cap Penalty For Breaches

The Data Protection Bill which was recently approved, may cap the penalty at Rs 250 crore for data breaches. The earlier proposed amount for data breaches was Rs 500 crore, says a report in The Hindu BusinessLine (HBL). The Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Bill recently received approval from the Union Cabinet and will be presented in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. 

The new draft Bill has the provision of penalties ranging up to Rs 250 crore for each incident of data breaches failing to take safeguards to prevent personal data breaches. According to HBL, which has seen the revised Bill, schedule 1 of the Bill specifies the quantum of various penalties, that range from Rs 10,000 to Rs 250 crore depending on the seriousness of the violation.

Tesla May Have Probed Elon Musk

EV maker Tesla may have investigated Elon Musk for alleged irregularities related to what was known as "Project 42", the media has reported. Tesla's Project 42 could be a home for its CEO and tech billionaire Elon Musk and its plans called for a dramatic glass-walled building to rise near the EV's headquarters. The probe by the company's board may have been a result of a costly order for glass for the project which drew the attention of Tesla last year.
