Suzuki, SkyDrive Teams Up To Produce 'Flying Cars': All You Need To Know

SkyDrive was formed in July 2018, with its headquarters in Shinjuku, Tokyo, with one mission in mind — leading a ‘once-in-a-century mobility revolution’.

Last year, SkyDrive and Suzuki formed a partnership to work on the business and technology for future ‘flying cars’. Now, an agreement between the two leading Japanese brands has been reached to develop electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, as reported by Reuters. They plan to start the production process around the next spring. In this partnership, SkyDrive will focus on owned subsidiaries whereas Suzuki will focus on the manufacturing part and securing talent.

Both the companies decided to use a Suzuki Group factory which is located in central Japan for research and development.

SkyDrive was formed in July 2018, with its headquarters in Shinjuku, Tokyo, with one mission in mind — leading a ‘once-in-a-century mobility revolution’.

Since then, they have been working for the future and have collaborated with many others to promote and share this vision where people can use high-tech designed air mobility for transport purposes.

They have already developed cargo drones and have advanced in the development of flying cars by making a compact, two-seat electric flying car and scaling its full-scale production.

Tomohiro Fukuzawa, the CEO of the company, said that it has conducted successful manned test flights, making SkyDrive the only company in Japan to do so.

Due to the joint venture between Suzuki and Sky Drive, the former will get the opportunity to indulge more in development and research and will also add flying cars as a fourth mobility business.

In India, it may be a far-fetched dream for flying cars but in a recent update by Suzuki, it announced back in March last year that it will be investing around Rs 10,440 crore for the development of EV batteries and vehicles. They are also working with Toyota for an upcoming all-electric midsize SUV by 2025.
