Xiaomi To Bid Adieu To MIUI, Launch In-House HyperOS, CEO Lei Jun Confirms
To recall, Xiaomi had released its in-house MIUI 14 based on Android 13 earlier this year alonside the Xiaomi 13 Pro.
Handset maker Xiaomi is set to bid adieu to its prorietary OS MIUI after 13 years, in favour of HyperOS that is slated to launch alongside the Xiaomi 14 lineup. According to Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, HyperOS will debut with the Xiaomi 14 series. He made the announcement on X, formerly Twitter on Tuesday. The Xiaomi 14 lineup is set to arrive later this year in company's home turf China, but global debut should take place in the early weeks of 2024.

To recall, Xiaomi had released its in-house MIUI 14 based on Android 13 earlier this year alonside the Xiaomi 13 Pro. The Xiaomi 13 Pro was the first phone to run the OS out of the box. HyperOS is still an Android Open Source Project but will be merged with Vela,the company's platform for IoT.
Lei posted on Weibo: The software is "based on the integration of the deeply evolved Android and the self-developed Vela system, completely rewriting the underlying architecture, and preparing a public base for the Internet of Everything for tens of billions of devices and tens of billions of connections in the future."
It is being said that Xiaomi may keep its HyperOS rollout limited to China.
However, Lei's reply to a user query on X points at a likely launch of HyperOS in other markets outside China, including India. According to a few retweets from Xiaomi India executives, Xiaomi's new HyperOS may be launched in the country soon.Earlier, it was speculated that the successor to MIUI would be called MiOS, but Xiaomi has decided to name its OS HyperOS.
