Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2 Announced: Specs, Design And Availability

The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2 will launch worldwide on October 11 and gets IP67 dust and water resistance.

Samsung Electronics has announced the Galaxy SmartTag 2 and it is set to launch globally on October 11. The Galaxy SmartTag 2 is the latest iteration in the Galaxy SmartTag line that lets users keep track of valuables easliy. The new model brings upgrades to the design and usability and comes with support for both Bluetooth and ultra-wideband. The SmartTag 2 competes with Apple AirTag and Tile.

The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2 will launch worldwide on October 11 and comes with the brand-new Lost Mode that lets users feed their contact information via a message. Then, anyone who discovers an item with a Galaxy SmartTag 2 attached can use their smartphone to scan the tag and see the owners’ message and contact information. For example, if a Galaxy SmartTag 2 attached to a pet’s collar, then the pet owner’s phone number will always be there, in most places where the pet might wander. The Lost Mode works with any mobile phone with NFC reader and web browser. The device also gets IP67 dust and water resistant as well.

The Galaxy SmartTag 2 also supports a new pet walking mode, which can let users log walks with their furry friends. The tracking device has a new compact size and ring-shaped design. The large metal loop is aimed at enhancing product durability by using metal on the inside of the ring for better resilience that can support accessories such as clips as well as keyrings. These accessories can also attach to bags and luggage.

The Galaxy SmartTag 2 also provides an improved Compass View feature, thus, enhancing the user experience by providing arrows to show the direction and distance of the device in relation to the user. This mode is available on any UWB-supported Galaxy smartphone, including this year's flagship, the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

When a user will switch Galaxy smartphones, the SmartTag 2 will now automatically re-sync their Galaxy smartphone using their Samsung account.

A nifty addition to the Galaxy SmartTag 2, for longer usage comes with the Power Saving Mode, which is available alongside an improved Normal mode. For users who rely on SmartTag to continually track items, the Power Saving Mode can come handy and help to maintain battery life while ensuring they can keep an eye on their things. With Power Saving Mode, the device battery is claimed to last up to 700 days, more than twice as long as previous Galaxy SmartTag models. Meanwhile, in Normal Mode, battery life is now extended to 500 days, which is a 50 per cent increase on previous models.

“With the Galaxy SmartTag2, we set out to make sure Samsung Galaxy users can find their belongings in an easy and intuitive way. With an enhanced finding experience and a longer battery life, Galaxy SmartTag2 will provide users with greater peace of mind for longer and in more situations.”
