Apple's Latest iOS 16.3.1 Rolling Out Globally To Fix Critical Bugs, iCloud Issues And More

Apple is rolling out its latest iOS 16.3.1 update for all eligible iPhone models globally that brings with it critical security patches against hacking and bug fixes.

Apple is rolling out its latest iOS 16.3.1 update for all eligible iPhone models globally that brings with it critical security patches against hacking and bug fixes. According to the company's release notes, the iOS 16.3.1 update also includes a fix for iCloud issues and Siri requests for Find My and it adds more Crash Detection optimisations.

According to Apple's release notes, the critical bug fixes and security updates for eligible iPhone models include:

* iCloud settings may be unresponsive or incorrectly display if apps are using iCloud
* Siri requests for Find My may not work
* Crash Detection optimizations on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models

The iOS 16.3 update, which was rolled out with the promise of adding more security options and new ways to use emergency SOS service via satellite, among others on supported iPhone models has led to users facing problems with iCloud backup. Some iPhone users, after updating to iOS 16.3 recently started encountering issues such as syncing with iCloud Drive, Photos and backup upload.

Meanwhile, on new iPhone models and Apple Watches, the Crash Detection feature alerts emergency services if users are unresponsive after a "severe car crash" and is enabled by default, however, some officials have said that the feature has caused several false reports that have logged the time and resources of first responders.

In December last year, several skiers with Apple devices in the US had sent automated crash warnings to dispatchers at the Summit County 911 Center. However, none of them was involved in an emergency, but they took time to handle and required ski patrollers to go to the location of the automated call if the skier did not answer a call from dispatchers.

This isn't the first time Apple has optimised crash detection, according to reports. Following reports of it triggering false alerts while iPhone users were riding rollercoasters, Apple released iOS 16.1.2 in November, which also included system changes.
