Apple iPad Pro (2024): From Price To Specifications & Powerful Chip Upgrade, Here's What We Know

Sources indicate that Apple is in discussions with various display vendors such as Samsung and LG to procure OLED panels for the 2024 iPad Pro lineup.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPad Pro lineup on May 7 at the 'Let Loose' event. As per reports, the iPad maker is expected to go all in on the 2024 lineup to attract a new set of users and to convince the existing ones to upgrade. The upcoming iPad Pro is anticipated to get some major hardware upgrades including a new OLED screen, and a new chip, and it might even get a number of AI features. Just a few days are left for its launch, let us go over everything that we know about the 2024 edition of the iPad Pro.

iPad Pro (2024): Pricing, Launch Date (Expected)

Apple iPad Pro (2024) series, with the iPad Air (2024) series, and other accessories like the Magic Keyboard and third-generation Apple Pencil are most likely to be unveiled on May 7, and might go on sale in the second half of May. In terms of pricing, the iPad Pro (2024) series might get a price bump due to its hardware upgrade.

iPad Pro (2024) To Come In Two Sizes And A Thinner Form Factor (Expected)

Since its inception, Apple has consistently offered the iPad Pro series in two sizes, and this trend is expected to continue with the upcoming release. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts the introduction of both an 11-inch model and a larger 12.9-inch variant to the iPad Pro lineup.

According to a report from Bloomberg, these upcoming models are poised to be the first iPads equipped with OLED screens, a display technology known for its superior colour accuracy, contrast levels, and brightness when compared to the current mini LED displays.

Sources indicate that Apple is in discussions with various display vendors such as Samsung and LG to procure OLED panels for the 2024 iPad Pro lineup. With the adoption of OLED technology, it's anticipated that the new iPad Pro models will be thinner by a few millimetres and possibly lighter by a few grams, owing to internal structural adjustments within the device. A report from 9to5Mac further suggests that the upcoming iPad Pros could boast a thickness reduction of up to 20 per cent compared to their predecessors.

In addition to these changes, there are speculations circulating about the introduction of a larger 14-inch model, potentially replacing the traditional 12.9-inch size. This shift could serve to distinguish between the iPad Pro and the iPad Air series. While this alteration might not occur this year, it remains a possibility for the following year.

iPad Pro (2024) To Get High-Performing M3/M4 Chip (Expected)

Up until the previous week, the consensus across reports indicated that the 2024 iPad Pro series would be fueled by the M3 chip, the same processor found in the latest MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models. However, a recent update from Bloomberg has hinted at the possibility of Apple equipping the device with the M4 chip, a move seemingly aimed at competing with the forthcoming Qualcomm-powered Windows laptops.

Even with the M3 chip, Apple has been positioning the new MacBooks as capable gaming devices, a trend that is expected to extend to the iPad Pro lineup, with Apple likely to introduce additional AAA titles.

According to Bloomberg's insights, the M4-powered iPad Pro is envisioned as an AI-capable tablet. However, it might be necessary to await the iPadOS 18 update, scheduled for WWDC 2024, to witness these AI capabilities in action. As with the current-generation models, the upcoming iPads are anticipated to offer various storage capacities, starting from 128 GB and reaching up to 2 TB. Additionally, there will be options for both Wi-Fi and cellular models with support for 5G and Wi-Fi 6E networks.

iPad Pro (2024) To Be Accompanied By Launch Of New Apple Pencil, New Magic Keyboard (Expected)

Apple recently introduced a new Pencil featuring USB-C compatibility, specifically designed for entry-level models. However, reports suggest that the company is preparing to unveil a third-generation Pencil, tailored for use with the iPad Pro, during the upcoming 'Let Loose' event.

In addition to the new Pencil, Apple is rumoured to debut an upgraded Magic Keyboard that, when combined with the iPad Pro, aims to simulate a laptop experience. This enhanced Magic Keyboard is expected to feature a larger trackpad, improved keys, and a metal finish, all geared towards providing users with a more laptop-like functionality.
