Apple Mulling To Change The Logo On The Back Of iPads In Future

Though a logo orientation change is primarily cosmetic, it would symbolise a significant update in the design language of the Apple iPad.

In an interview with Numerama, as reported by MacRumors, Apple industrial designer Molly Anderson has hinted at a change in Apple logo in future iPad models. He mentioned that the current vertical logo might not be permanent, suggesting future changes could be on the horizon. He also discussed the orientation of the Apple logo on the iPad when used with a keyboard case or in landscape mode.

Anderson highlighted that the Apple iPad is designed for use in any orientation, but she acknowledged a trend toward landscape usage in recent years. Her comments were somewhat ambiguous, but they do indicate that the tech giant may be considering aligning the iPad's logo orientation with that of its MacBooks.

While Anderson's response was not definitive, Apple's usual policy is to avoid discussing potential changes unless they are seriously contemplated. This suggests a possible redesign of the iPad's logo placement to better suit landscape mode.

Supporting this likely shift, Apple relocated the front camera to the center for landscape use with the 10th generation iPad that was unveiled in 2022. This change was also implemented in the newly released M2 iPad Air and M4 iPad Pro models. Additionally, since the unveiling of iPadOS 14.5, the Apple logo adjusts to match the device’s orientation during startup.

Meanwhile, an update to the iPad Mini, which was notably absent in the recent "Let Loose" Apple event, has led some industry insiders to speculate about a potential release later this year. According to Bloomberg's tech analyst Mark Gurman, there is a possibility. He has suggested that a new iPad Mini could make its debut towards the end of the year, potentially replacing the existing 2021 model.

According to Gurman's insights shared via @appltrack, the anticipated iPad Mini refresh might not bring groundbreaking changes beyond a faster chip.
