Diwali 2024: Snapchat Brings 3 New AR Lenses To Celebrate The Festival Of Lights. Here's How To Use

Snapchat's ‘Diwali Game Lens’ provides a delightful 30-second game where users trace popular Diwali symbols, such as lanterns and rockets, to collect them.

Snapchat is enhancing Diwali celebrations with the launch of three engaging augmented reality (AR) lenses specifically designed for users in India. These innovative lenses — ‘Diwali Game Lens,’ ‘Light A Diya Lens,’ and ‘Light the Sky Up Lens’ — offer a modern twist to traditional Diwali festivities, allowing users to immerse themselves in the vibrant spirit of the holiday through their smartphones.

The ‘Diwali Game Lens’ provides a delightful 30-second game where users trace popular Diwali symbols, such as lanterns and rockets, to collect them. The game fosters friendly competition with a leaderboard that showcases high scores, encouraging users to challenge their friends and share their achievements.

How To Use Snapchat's Diwali AR Lenses

To use the ‘Diwali Game Lens,’ follow these simple steps:

  1. Open the Snapchat App: Launch the app on your smartphone and navigate to the camera screen.

  2. Scan the QR Code: Locate the QR code associated with the ‘Diwali Game Lens’ and scan it using the app’s camera. This will activate the lens.

  3. Prepare for the Game: Once the lens is activated, a 5-second countdown will begin, giving you time to get ready for the game.

  4. Start Tracing: As the game begins, festive symbols like Kaju Katli and Rangoli will appear on your screen. Your task is to trace these symbols within 30 seconds as accurately as possible.

  5. Save and Share Your Score: After completing the game, a pop-up will prompt you to save your score. Confirm to save it, and you can then share your results with friends through the leaderboard feature.

  6. Capture Your Festive Selfie: Use the lens to take a festive photo of yourself, complete with a “Happy Diwali” message to celebrate the occasion.

In addition to the gaming experience, Snapchat introduces the ‘Light A Diya Lens’ and ‘Light the Sky Up Lens.’

  • Light A Diya Lens: This lens allows users to light a virtual diya with a simple tap. The glowing diya adds a warm, festive ambience to your screen, embodying the spirit of Diwali. To use this lens, simply tap on the diya icon when the lens is activated, and watch your screen light up.

  • Light the Sky Up Lens: This lens transforms your surroundings into a festive spectacle filled with dazzling virtual fireworks. When activated, the sky around you will come alive with vibrant colours and celebratory effects, making you feel as though Diwali is happening right above you, any time of the day. Tap the screen to activate the fireworks and enjoy the magical display.

With these three AR lenses, Snapchat invites users to embrace the festive spirit of Diwali, offering unique ways to engage, celebrate, and connect with friends and family. By merging technology and tradition, Snapchat is enhancing the way users experience this beloved holiday, ensuring that the joy of Diwali is just a tap away.
