ChatGPT Canvas: What We Know
ChatGPT Canvas is now accessible to all ChatGPT users—Free, Plus, and Pro—through the GPT-4 model, though free users have restricted access to this innovative tool. Designed to enhance human-AI collaboration, Canvas can be used via the web or the ChatGPT desktop app for Windows.
It allows users and ChatGPT to work together interactively on documents, offering features like collaborative editing and targeted feedback, simulating two people collaborating in real time. The tool is also integrated with shortcuts and supports custom GPTs for seamless access.
Canvas offers valuable assistance for essay feedback. When users input a significant amount of text, a Canvas button appears in the interface, enabling users to request in-depth comments. ChatGPT can analyze specific sections, providing detailed suggestions much like a professor’s feedback, making revisions straightforward. This functionality also extends to coding, where ChatGPT can critique and improve programming scripts.
OpenAI engineers have showcased the versatility of Canvas by using it to create a Christmas story for children, complete with emojis for added fun. This release is part of OpenAI's “12 Days of OpenAI” announcements. Alongside Canvas, the company has launched several updates, including ChatGPT Pro, a premium plan priced at $200 per month for enhanced features, and a fine-tuning research initiative. Additionally, OpenAI has made its video generative AI model, Sora Turbo, available to Plus and Pro users.
