Ever since Microsoft-backed artificial intelligence (AI) research lab OpenAI released the prototype of ChatGPT in November 2022, the chatbot has been leveraged by academicians and enterprises alike to take care of several tasks, from writing detailed essays to generating complex programming codes in a matter of minutes. ChatGPT’s popularity has brought a certain question under the spotlight like never before — can AI take over human jobs?

While most argue that a generative AI bot cannot entirely replace humans, some surmise that we’ll see the creation of several new jobs to support AI infrastructure. We even asked ChatGPT if it thinks AI will take over human jobs, it said, “AI has the potential to automate certain tasks that are currently performed by humans, which could lead to job displacement in certain industries. However, it is also expected to create new jobs and opportunities in areas such as AI development and maintenance, data analysis, and more.”

This time around, we asked ChatGPT to list 10 human jobs that it thinks AI cannot replace. Here are the jobs it listed:

Writers: Writing requires creativity, imagination, and the ability to convey complex ideas and emotions, which are difficult for AI to match.

Personal care workers: Personal care work requires empathy, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills, which are difficult for AI to replicate.

Customer service representatives: Customer service involves human interaction, empathy, and the ability to understand and respond to complex customer needs.

Entrepreneurs: Entrepreneurship involves creativity, risk-taking, and the ability to identify and pursue opportunities, which are difficult for AI to replicate.

While some of the options listed by ChatGPT make sense, such as entrepreneurs, social workers, and personal care workers. However, some of the listings, especially customer service representatives, are jobs that have already seen a heavy impact from the integration of AI. It should be noted that AI is still in its nascent stage, marked by pilots and prototypes, before industrywide adoption is seen across the globe.
