AI Action Summit: Paris is set to host the world’s leading minds in artificial intelligence as the AI Action Summit unfolds on February 10 and 11, 2025. The event, co-chaired by India, will convene government officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, international organisations, corporate leaders, academics, researchers, artists, and civil society representatives from across the globe.
The summit aims to address the transformative impact of AI, which is reshaping industries like healthcare, education, and the workforce at an unprecedented pace. Alongside its vast potential, AI presents significant challenges, such as safeguarding fundamental rights, ensuring the reliability of information, and fostering equitable access. The event seeks to strike a balance between technological advancement and the preservation of universal values.
AI Action Summit: Key Objectives & Themes
The AI Action Summit will focus on three overarching goals:
- Ensuring broad access to secure and dependable AI technologies.
- Promoting environmentally sustainable AI solutions.
- Establishing inclusive global governance frameworks for AI.
To achieve these objectives, discussions will revolve around five strategic themes:
- Public Service AI: Exploring applications for societal benefit.
- Future of Work: Examining AI's role in transforming employment landscapes.
- Innovation and Culture: Highlighting AI-driven creativity and technological breakthroughs.
- Trust in AI: Building systems that are transparent, safe, and accountable.
- Global Governance: Shaping international standards and regulations.
Building On Global Initiatives
The summit builds upon insights from the Bletchley Park Summit in November 2023 and the Seoul Summit in May 2024. A steering committee comprising representatives from around 30 countries and international institutions has been instrumental in shaping the event’s agenda.
In preparation for the summit, over 800 stakeholders—including public and private sector partners, researchers, and NGOs—have participated in global discussions since mid-2024. These efforts culminated in more than 100 pre-summit events worldwide, laying the groundwork for the conversations in Paris.
AI Action Week Highlights
The AI Action Summit is the centrepiece of the broader AI Action Week, which runs from February 6 to 11. Key highlights include:
- February 6-7: The International AI, Science, and Society Conference at the Institut Polytechnique de Paris.
- February 8-9: Cultural events open to the public, celebrating AI’s intersection with art and culture.
- February 10: A global forum at the Grand Palais, featuring diverse stakeholders from governments, businesses, and academia.
- February 11: The summit’s plenary session, gathering heads of state and government to outline major AI initiatives.
The concluding day will also feature over 100 side events, including a Business Day at Station F and specialised discussions on AI’s impact on democracy and the environment at the École Normale Supérieure and the Ministry for the Ecological Transition.
As AI continues to evolve and shape the future, the AI Action Summit promises to be a pivotal moment for fostering innovation, collaboration, and responsible governance on a global scale.
