Weather In Tamil Nadu To Remain Cloudy For Few More Days Due To Cyclone Asani

The RMC also issued a warning against fishermen venturing into the sea till Friday due to the change in cyclonic air movement.

Chennai: Cloudy weather will persist over Chennai and other northern districts of Tamil Nadu for a few more days due to the cyclonic movements caused as a result of Cyclone Asani, said MET Department. 

In a bulletin, IMD on Cyclone Asani said, "The deep depression over coastal Andhra Pradesh remained stationary during the last six hours and weakened into a depression over the same region in the wee hours of May 12 to the west of Machilipatnam."

"It's likely to hover around the same region and weaken further into a well-marked low-pressure area in the next 12 hours," it said. 

In this backdrop, Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam weather stations in Chennai recorded daytime temperatures below normal by 2.8 and 3.9 degrees Celsius respectively, said a report on New Indian Express.

The least temperature was recorded in Kodaikanal with the hill station recording 17 degrees Celsius followed by Coimbatore with 26 degrees Celsius temperature.

Earlier, Coast Guard rescued six Tamil Nadu fishermen who got stranded near Gulf of Mannar due to Cyclone Asani. Based on the information, Coast Guard ship Abhiraj was rushed for search and rescue operation in Gulf of Mannar. After a deep search, ship Abhiraj saved the fishermen stranded in fishing boat ‘Punitha Anthoniyar’.
