TN Urban Local Body Poll Results: Early Trends Show DMK Gearing Towards Landslide Victory

The DMK workers started their celebrations at the party headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, in Chennai from Tuesday morning.

Chennai: The counting of votes started for the urban local body elections on Tuesday and the early trends already suggest that DMK is gearing towards a landslide victory across the state including in the western bastion of the AIADMK.

In the run-up for the elections to 21 corporations, 138 municipalities and 489 town panchayats, DMK is leading in all the three civic divisions as per the trends till 3 pm. 

According to the state election commission, DMK won 351 corporation wards, 1419 municipal wards and 3944 town panchayat wards. On the other hand, AIADMK won 54 corporation wards, 383 municipal wards and 1112 town panchayat wards as per the results till 2 pm.

The third-party after AIADMK and DMK to record the next highest victory is Congress. The Congress party has recorded a victory in 30 corporation wards, 101 municipal wards and 294 town panchayat wards.

In Chennai, DMK won 64 Corporation wards while AIADMK won 7 wards. The Congress won six wards followed by CPI (M) with 2 wards and CPI with one ward. The results of 84 wards of the total 200 wards are out yet.

The DMK workers started their celebrations at the party headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, in Chennai from Tuesday morning.

DMK also witnessed the victory of transwoman Ganga in Vellore, the win of murdered Madipakkam DMK member’s wife in the urban local body polls.
