Thiruvallur: Man Rapes, Murders & Dumps Minor In Waterbody, Arrested

The police who found the girl dead in a lake initially registered a case under suspicious death and later altered the case after the autopsy. 

Chennai: A man who raped, murdered and dumped a 15-year-old girl in a lake was arrested by the police on Wednesday. The girl was initially found dead in a lake in Tiruvallur districts two days ago. The police registered a case under suspicious death and later altered the case after autopsy. 

According to a report on Times of India,  a 19-year-old Praveen was arrested on Tuesday while his 17-year-old friend who helped him with murder has been nabbed and sent to a government home. 

On Sunday, the accused met the girl along with his friend in a secluded place near a lake. During the meeting, the girl reportedly reminded the girl about his promise of marriage. However, Praveen raped her and then started to argue with her when she told him that she would file a complaint.

Following this, Praveen and his friend strangled her and then dumped her body in a lake 300 meters away from the crime scene. 

On October 23, the parents of the girl filed a girl missing complaint with Uthukottai police. Based on the complaint, the police established a search and found the body of the girl near the lake in Aramani village. The probe also revealed that she was last seen with Praveen following which he was nabbed by the police. 

Later, Praveen confessed to the murder. He was then arrested under POCSO (The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012) Act. His accomplice was also arrested and sent to a government correctional home.

The police said that the girl was a dropout. The Class 10 student dropped out few months ago due to financial issue. a
