Tamil Nadu: Schools In Madurai, Coimbatore, Dindigul Districts To Remain Closed Due To Heavy Rainfall

Tamil Nadu School Holiday: The IMD has issued an 'orange alert' for several districts amid forecast for heavy rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu.

Several districts in Tamil Nadu declared a holiday for schools as heavy rains lashed the state on Thursday. Schools will remain closed in Coimbatore, Dindigul and Madurai, as per orders issued by the respective district collectors, ANI reported. The meteorological department has forecast widespread rainfall in most of the districts on Thursday. The IMD has issued an 'orange alert' for several districts.

The Tamil Nadu government had announced holiday for schools on November 4 as well in Chennai, Madurai, and several other districts due to incessant showers.

As per a bulletin issued by the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast for in Kanniyakumari, Theni, Nilgiris, Tenkasi and Nellai disticts. Coimbatore, Tirupur, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Pudukottai, Tanjore, Tiruvarur, Nagai, Mayiladuthurai and Erode are likely to receive heavy rain.

As per the bulletin, the IMD has issued heavy rainfall alert for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and Karaikal, coastal and south interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
