Tamil Nadu's Top Bureaucrat Amudha Is Set To Return To State From Modi's Office

Tamil Nadu government reportedly sought Amudha's transfer to state service from PMO following which Modi's office agreed to the appeal

Chennai: From working in an operation to capture Veerappan in Sathayamangalam forest to looking after relief measures during the 2015-Chennai floods, the sought-after field officer IAS Amudha is set to return to Tamil Nadu. The Officer, who hailed from Tamil Nadu's Madurai, was serving as the Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister's office and her return is based on the request of the state government. After the announcement, it is speculated that the officer is likely to be given an important portfolio in the state.

According to a report on ABP Nadu, IAS Amudha who joined the public services of the 1994 batch, was initially posted as a sub-collector in Gobi-Chettipalayam of Erode. She had ventured into the forest to meet the locals where she gained public trust. Later, she undertook several reform measures in the region.

She then served as the Collector of Dharmapuri district where she helped in empowering women, putting an end to female infanticide, and increasing the literacy rate among women in the district.

She was then given additional duty as Chief Electoral Officer in Public (Elections). She was later posted as project director for Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society. In her service spanning over 25 years, she has worked in at least 15 departments.

However, the commitment of Amudha, who is known for her fearless service, was known when she met with an accident while she was traveling to Tirusulam to seal a quarry owned by an infamous history-sheeter. Amudha eventually recovered from the injuries and once again took action with an iron fist against the sand miners and illegal quarry operators in Chengalpattu.

During the Chennai floods in 2015, she played a pivotal role as a special officer in handling the monsoon relief works. Later, she was also appointed to overlook the last rites of former Chief Minister Karunanidhi who passed away in 2018.

In 2019, she was appointed as a professor of Public Administration in Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Uttarakhand's Mussoorie. She was later appointed as Joint Secretary in PMO in 2020 till 2022.
