Zomato Row: Founder Deepinder Goyal Bats For Employee After Her Service Termination, Reinstates Her

The response of the founder was to a stir that was caused on Monday when a Zomato user from Tamil Nadu was denied a refund since he did not know Hindi

Chennai: Hours after terminating the services of a Zomato customer care executive for her discriminative response against the consumer and issuing an apology on behalf of the employee, the food delivery platform founder Deepinder Goyal tweeted saying the employee has been reinstated in the company. He further said that the mistake was a human error and the call centre agents are young people and not experts on language and regional sentiments.

Taking the issue to Twitter, Deepinder Goyal said in a thread of three tweets, “An ignorant mistake by someone in a support centre of a food delivery company became a national issue. The level of tolerance and chill in our country needs to be way higher than it is nowadays. Who's to be blamed here?”

On that note, we are reinstating the agent – this alone is not something she should have been fired for. This is easily something she can learn and do better about going forward,” he added.

He further said, “Remember, our call centre agents are young people, who are at the start of their learning curves and careers. They are not experts on languages and regional sentiments. Nor am I, btw.”

He then told that everyone should learn to tolerate each other’s imperfections and appreciate the language and regional sentiments of the people. He also said that he loves Tamil Nadu as much as the rest of the country.

The response of the founder was to a stir that was caused on Monday when a Zomato user from Tamil Nadu was denied a refund since he did not know Hindi. The Zomato executive said, “For your kind information Hindi is our national language. So it is very common that everybody should know Hindi little bit.”

The incident hurt the sentiments of the people of Tamil Nadu and soon #RejectZomato started trending on the Twitter following which the company as a defence mechanism terminated the employee on Tuesday.
