Tamil Nadu Records 6,983 COVID-19 Cases, 75% Of New Infection From Chennai & KTC Regions
Following the massive spike, the night curfew imposed by Tamil Nadu government was put into place from Thursday.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu reported a steep surge in coronavirus cases on Thursday with 6,983 patients testing positive for the virus. With the new tally, nearly 75% of the cases are emerging from Chennai and Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpattu (KTC), said a report on Times of India.
Of the total, the highest number of cases was reported from Chennai with 3,759 patients testing positive for the virus followed by Chengalpattu with 816 patients, Tiruvallur with 444 patients, Coimbatore with 309 patients and Vellore with 223 patients.
The state reported 11 deaths on Thursday. Of the 11 deaths, all the patients had comorbidities and they died without responding to the treatment.
Around 721 patients were also discharged from the hospitals after recovery.
Tamil Nadu currently has 22,828 active novel coronavirus cases.
The state tested 1,28,736 samples of 1,28,496 patients for COVID-19 on Thursday.

The total Omicron cases in the state continue to be 121 with test results awaited for a few persons.
On Thursday in Chennai, the highest number of cases was reported in Teynampet (970) zone followed by Adyar (954), Kodambakkam (918), Anna Nagar (836) and Tondiarpet (551) zones.
Meanwhile, the trajectory of the steep increase shows Tamil Nadu recording 4,862 cases on January 5, 2,731 cases on January 4 while only 603 cases on December 31. Following the massive spike, the night curfew imposed by Tamil Nadu government was put into place from Thursday.
