Tamil Nadu: Covid-19 Cluster Grips Three College Hostels In Chennai After 106 Students Test Positive For Virus

The three clusters emerged from Stanley Medical College Hospital, Madras Christian College in Chennai and MIT in Chromepet near Chennai

Chennai: As novel coronavirus cases spike in Tamil Nadu, new clusters are gripping colleges hostels in Tamil Nadu. On Wednesday, three college clusters especially among students staying in hostels were reported. The three clusters emerged from Stanley Medical College Hospital, Madras Christian College in Chennai and MIT in Chromepet near Chennai. 

According to a report on Times of India, 27 students of Stanley Medical College Hospital tested positive for the virus on Wednesday. Among the 27 students, 14 cases were reported from men's hostel while another 13 cases were reported from women's hostel on Wednesday. 

The cluster was reported after a cluster in Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai.

The Dean of Stanley MCH said, the students reportedly went on a trip to Coorg and tested positive immediately after that even before reporting for work. All the students are in isolation. 

In another cluster in MIT in Chrompet, nearly 67 of 169 students tested positive for coronavirus after a test was taken since seven students tested positive for the virus on December 2021. Of the total students, 47 male students are kept in quarantine at the Marutham hostel while six female students are quarantined at Ponni hostel in MIT, Chrompet. The remaining students are undergoing home quarantine.

Further, the samples were sent to test for the Omicron variant of novel coronavirus.

The college after the outbreak shut the campus and resumed online classes.

In MCC, nearly 12 students from the hostel tested positive for the virus.
