Tamil Nadu: Man 'Stages' Accident To Kill Friend, Arrested

The accident 'drama' came to light when the police combed the CCTV footage and grew suspicious since it did not show any vehicle passing near the area at the time of mishap.

Chennai: A 24-year-old man was arrested for murdering his friend during a drunken brawl and allegedly trying to stage it off as an accident in Pallikaranai on Thursday.

According to a report on Times of India, Karthik, a contract worker of Chennai Corporation and his friend Kumar were consuming alcohol at a TASMAC shop near Pallikaranai. While drinking, both of them started to argue about an issue and soon a drunk brawl ensued between the duo.

Angered over the turn of events, Karthik in a fit of rage reportedly stamped Kumar's chest forcefully and the victim fell to the ground. Kumar who was unconscious did not regain consciousness again.

Hence, Karthik decided to stage an accident drama. In a complaint to the police, Karthik said, an unidentified vehicle ran over Kumar while they were crossing the road and later he died due to the injury at Government Royapettah Hospital on May 24.

Karthik also did not regain consciousness until his death.

However, based on the complaint, Pallikaranai police registered a hit-and-run case and started to look out for the vehicle. On the other, police also did not find the claim believable and continued to probe in the angle of a murder.

They then combed the CCTV footage and grew suspicious since it did not show any vehicle passing near the area at the time of the accident.
