Sagaya Mary who was the warden of the hostel in which the girl was residing was arrested based on the death statement of the girl.

In a Facebook post, Trichy (East) MLA Inigo Iruthayaraj shared the image of him welcoming Sagaya Mary by draping a shawl around her outside the jail.

He posted the image with a caption, "Justice will win. Let us continue to travel in the path of safeguarding religious harmony."

Sagaya Mary was released after she was granted bail by a Thanjavur Court. However, the image of the DMK MLA created a controversy on Monday.

On January 19, a Class 12 student died by suicide in Thanjavur GH despite treatment. In her dying statement, she allegedly said that she was forced to do multiple works at the hostel.

However, the family members and BJP said that the girl killed herself under the pressure of converting to Christianity. The BJP made the allegation based on a purported video of the girl where she was seen telling that her parents were asked by the hostel authorities to permit them to convert the girl to the said religion.

Meanwhile, on the same day of the controversy, the Supreme Court permitted the CBI to probe the case of suicide. They also refused to intervene in the Madras HC order directing to hand over the case to CBI.
