Tamil Nadu CM Stalin Meets Guv RN Ravi, Insists Him To Send NEET Bill To President Kovind For Consent

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday called upon Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi, insisting him to send the Bill to exempt students of the state from the National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and to conduct MBBS counseling with Class 12 marks, passed in the state Assembly, for the President's consent. 

A press release from the Secretariat said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on September 13 tabled a Bill based on the recommendation of the retired Justice AK Rangarajan committee to exempt the state from NEET. The CM then sent the Bill to Tamil Nadu Governor for receiving the consent of President Ramnath Kovind. 

In this backdrop, CM Stalin visited the Governor to insist him to send the Bill for President's consent soon, taking into account the situation of the students.

During the meeting along with the Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan, Health Minister Ma Subramanian and Health Secretary were also present in Raj Bhavan.


In September, the DMK-led government passed a Bill to scrap NEET and sought MBBS admissions based on Class 12 marks. The Chief Minister passed the Bill after some of the Class 12 students took their lives fearing failure in NEET. The opposition from AIADMK and PMK was also increasing in the issue and they also supported the Bill.

However, the BJP members staged a walkout from the Assembly over the issue.
