Tamil Nadu Budget 2023-24 To Be Presented On March 20: Assembly Speaker
Tamil Nadu Budget 2023-24: Appavu said that the Finance Minister will present a vote on account 2023-23 and final supplementary estimates 2022-23 on March 28.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker Appavu on Monday announced that Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan will present the Budget 2023-24 in the Assembly on March 20 at 10 AM. The duration of the session, however, is yet to be announced by Business Advisory Committee (BAC).
According to ANI, Appavu said that the Finance Minister will present a vote on account 2023-23 and final supplementary estimates 2022-23 on March 28.
After the Budget presentation, he said, the BAC will decide on the agriculture budget and debate on the demand for grants from various departments.
On the seating to be provided to former CM O Panneerselvam, Appavu said that the issue has been settled and he as a speaker would decide on who would sit where in the House.
Earlier, a clash broke out in the Assembly after Panneerselvam was given a seat next to AIADMK interim general secretary and Leader of Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami.
Appavu's remark that seating is a settled issue is seen as a hint that a change is unlikely.
The SC last week gave a verdict in the favour of Edappadi Palaniswami by upholding July 11 AIADMK general council meeting which appointed EPS as interim general secretary of the party.
The AIADMK members were also insisting the Speaker to acknowledge the appointment of former Ministers RB Udhayakumar and Agri SS Krishnamurthy as the deputy leader and deputy secretary of the opposition respectively, said a report on Times of India.
On Saturday, Chief Minister Stalin said in Erode that the date of launch of the Rs 1,000 per month assistance scheme for women heads of families would be announced in the Budget.
The previous sitting of the Assembly in January was in turmoil after Governor RN Ravi delivered his Address amid din. He also walked out after omitting certain portions of the government-prepared Address and by including some points on his own.
