Tamil Nadu: 61-Year-Old Teacher Loses Medical Seat On Technical Grounds Even After Cracking NEET
He was eligible for the seats but Pre University Course (PUC) became an issue
Chennai: A retired Zoology teacher Sivaprakasam who cracked the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Exam (NEET) UG and secured 349th rank and despite having 7.5 per cent government school quota lost his seat on technical grounds.
The retired zoology teacher finished his Pre University Course (PUC) system instead of the Classes 10 & 12 structure. The PUC system is now abolished as a result of which he was disqualified from getting a seat.
According to a report on IANS, the 61-year-old was contemplating whether he should take up the seat or not since his son who is a doctor was against the decision and said that a youngster would be deprived of a seat if Sivaprakasam takes up the seat.

On Friday, Sivaprakasam was called for counselling in the government school quota and there were 437 seats. He was eligible for the seats but PUC became an issue.
Sivaprakasam dreamt of becoming a doctor since his childhood. However, he could not take up the profession due to his low PUC score. Even after studying BSc Zoology, he tried again but could not crack it. Later, he got a job as a Dharmapuri GHSS teacher, where he worked until his retirement.

However, he once again wanted to pursue his dream since the Supreme Court scrapped the upper age limit, reports The New Indian Express.
He said that he was happy to have cleared the NEET exam and though it was hard he was still excited to write it.
