'One Nation, One Election' is a proposal of Indian government that aims to simultaneously conduct elections for the Lok Sabha and all state assemblies.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin moved a resolution against 'One Nation One Election' policy in the state Assembly on Wednesday. 'One Nation, One Election' is a proposal of the Indian government that aims to simultaneously conduct elections for the Lok Sabha and all state assemblies.

According to ANI, Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin moved resolution against 'One Nation One Election' policy in the State Assembly.

"The one nation one election is out-and-out impractical and it is against the basic feature of the Constitution. It is fully opposed to the Constitutional guarantee of independent, free and fair polls," the chief minister said, as per the report on PTI.

The DMK-led government also passed another resolution urging the Centre not to carry out the delimitation exercise on the basis of census. The allies of the DMK party including Congress, VCK, MDMK and Left parties supported the move.

AIADMK MLA N Thalavai Sundaram expressed that the party would have endorsed the one nation, one election policy provided its ten demands, presented to the former President Ram Nath Kovind-led high-level committee, were fulfilled within the span of ten years. The AIADMK anticipated a reduction in election-related expenses due to the intermittent disruptions caused by the election code of conduct.

The AIADMK supported the resolution against delimitation and pointed to the population control initiatives of the southern states. They also highlighted the lack of such measures in the northern state.

The move comes as the high-level committee on 'One Nation, One Election' continued its engagements with state election commissions, seeking their perspectives on conducting simultaneous polls throughout the country on Monday.
