Rajiv Gandhi Case: 4 Sri Lankan Nationals Released By SC To Be Deported

The four persons are Murugan (alias Sriharan), Robert Payas, S Jayakumar and Santhan.

Chennai: The four Sri Lankan nationals who were released from prison after their term for their role in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi will be deported to their home country. 

The four persons are Murugan (alias Sriharan), Robert Payas, S Jayakumar and Santhan.

According to a report on The New Indian Express, the Union Home Ministry issued instructions to Tamil Nadu government for deporting the four persons. All four of them are currently kept in a special camp in Tiruchy. 

One of the sources told TNIE that they are taking some legal procedures which should be completed before the deportation and till now no dates have been fixed for the process.

On Monday, Nalini Sriharan, who also served a prison sentence in connection with the case, met the four members at the special camp in Tiruchy. After the meeting, Nalini said, “
I appeal to state and central governments to release 4 Sri Lankan nationals, locked in Trichy spl camp including my husband. Despite being released from prison, this spl camp is like a prison again.”

She also said that Santhan has decided to return to Sri Lanka. However, Robert Payas and Jayakumar haven’t made a decision yet. Also, she and her husband Murugan have decided to join their daughter in London. 

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu police have intensified the security at Tiruchy rehabilitation camp where the four members are placed. The special camp has already 130 foreign nationals lodged in it of which a majority are Sri Lankans involved in various criminal activities.
