Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case: Nalini Petitions Madras HC For Release Of Murugan From Trichy Special Camp
Nalini and her husband Sriharan were released after serving 30 years of jail term in connection with Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
Nalini Sriharan, who was released from prison after serving a jail term in connection with Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, moved Madras High Court urging to direct authorities to release her husband from Trichy Special Camp. On Thursday, the petition came up for hearing before Justice N Seshasayee who posted the case for further hearing after six weeks. The court also ordered notice to Union and Tamil Nadu governments.
According to PTI, Nalini in her petition submitted an order from November 11, 2022. As per the order, the SC released Sriharan alias Murugan and Nalini. Murugan was a Sri Lankan Tamil.
Nalini and her husband Sriharan were released after serving 30 years of jail term. As her husband was from Sri Lanka, Nalini's husband was lodged in Special Camp (Foreigners Detention Centre), Tiruchirapalli after the release.
Nalini said, "As per the policy adopted by the Tamil Nadu government, many foreigners after their release from prison were allowed to reside along with their family members in the state, subject to certain conditions. Many foreigners were allowed to seek asylum in countries of their choice."

Nalini was pregnant at the time of her detention, and while she was being held at the Chengalpattu sub-jail, her daughter was born on December 19, 1992. Her daughter was now married and residing in London with her spouse and little child.
She submitted, "Her daughter was a citizen of the United Kingdom. Her husband would like to settle with their daughter in the UK. Moreover, he has to contact the Sri Lankan Embassy in connection with his passport. Since he was detained in the Special Camp, he was unable to move out."
