PM Modi Dedicates Rs 5,200-Crore Airport, Railway Projects To Chennai, Flags Off Vande Bharat Train: Top Points

PM Modi is set to meet Oscar-winning 'The Elephant Whisperers' couple Bomman and Bellie at Mudumalai Tiger Reserve on Sunday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Chennai as part of his two-day trip to southern states including Telangana, Tamil Nadu and boll-pound Karnataka. During the visit to Chennai, PM Modi dedicated to the nation airport, railway and highway projects costing Rs 5,200 in the city. 

PM Modi is also set to meet Oscar-winning 'The Elephant Whisperers' couple Bomman and Bellie at Mudumalai Tiger Reserve on Sunday.

Some of the key highlights of the visit:

  • PM Modi reached Chennai at 2.40 PM and he was welcomed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Governor RN Ravi at the Chennai airport.
  •  From the Airport, PM Modi started the venue to integrate the new integrated terminal of Chennai International Airport.
  •  On the way, PM waved at the people and the reporters outside the domestic airport.
  •  PM Modi then reached the venue at 3 PM and inaugurated the new Integrated Terminal Building (Phase-1) of Chennai International Airport.
  •  Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia was also present at Chennai Internation Airport. He then explained the functioning of the terminal to the PM.
  •  The state-of-the-art terminal is spread across 1,36,295 sq m and it will help in serving 30 million passengers per annum.
  •  The terminus also carries local Tamil culture and tradition including Kolam, saree, temples and other elements in the interiors. 
  • After the event, PM traveled to Chennai MGR Central Railway Station by air and road for the inauguration of Vande Bharat Express train. 
  •  PM Modi flagged off Chennai-Coimbatore Vande Bharat Express at MGR Central Railway station in Chennai.

  • The Vande Bharat Express train is expected to cover the distance between Chennai and Coimbatore in about 5.50 hours which is 1.20 hours faster than the normal train service.
  •  After the flagging-off ceremony, PM Narendra Modi took part in the celebrations commemorating the 125th Anniversary of Sri Ramakrishna Mutt in Chennai.
  •  At the Mutt, PM Modi said, "Ramakrishna Math is an institution that I deeply respect. It has played an important role in my life. I am among the Tamil people, for whom I have great affection. l love the Tamil language, Tamil culture and the vibe of Chennai."

  • PM Modi said: "This Amrit Kaal can be used to achieve great things by assimilating five ideas 'the Panch Praan'. These are- Goal of a developed India, Removing any traces of colonial mindset, Celebrating our heritage, Strengthening unity, and Focusing on our duties."
  • PM Modi said that today's India believes in women-led development. Whether it is startups or sports, armed forces or higher education, women are breaking barriers and setting new records.
