Centre Gives Nod For 11 Nursing Colleges In Tamil Nadu: Health Min Ma Subramanian

New Nursing Colleges In TN: Earlier, the Minister said that the state sought Centre's permission to start 30 new nursing colleges.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian on Friday said that the state has received the nod from Centre to open 11 new nursing colleges. He said that the colleges will be built alongside government medical colleges.

According to Times of India, the Minister said that the state has six nursing colleges. However, the elected members have been saying that the nursing colleges are inadequate in the state.

As a result, the Minister said that the state sought the Centre's permission to start 30 new nursing colleges.

Following this, the Centre has given nod to 157 nursing colleges across the country. The 157 colleges will be set up in places including UP (27), Rajasthan (23), Madhya Pradesh (14), Tamil Nadu (11) and West Bengal (11) respectively.

The colleges in TN will receive Rs 10 crore each, he said adding, the college will offer 100 undergraduate nursing seats each.

These colleges are expected to add 1,110 nursing seats every year.

Nursing colleges are a step towards creating professionals to serve the country and global markets.

Though the Centre has given nod for setting up nursing colleges in TN, the controversy over the construction of AIIMS, Madurai is far from over.

Controversy Over Construction Of AIIMS Madurai

The high-voltage political drama recently took place during Question Hour in Parliament in February. During the meeting, DMK MP T.R. Baalu sought to know from the Health Minister the number of medical colleges functioning in the country without proper infrastructure and also the number of colleges whose foundation has been laid by the prime minister but are yet to function.

To this, Mandaviya said that "politics can be played on any issue, but if the respected member is trying to ask about the AIIMS in Madurai, then I would like to inform that courses have already begun there, only the infrastructure remains to be completed".

However, DMK MPs Dayanidhi Maran and K. Kanimozhi protested, the Health Minister said that as the Tamil Nadu government didn't allot land on time, the infrastructure for Madurai AIIMS couldn't be completed on time.
