IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall, Yellow Alert Issued In 11 TN Districts For 48 Hrs
The RMC also issued a thunderstorm warning for the state stating that light to moderate rains are expected over a few places with thunderstorm and lightning.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued 'Yellow alert' over parts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. The alert comes after IMD predicted heavy rainfall in 11 districts of Tamil Nadu for the next two days.
According to RMC scientist P. Senthamarai Kannan, rains will lash Erode, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari districts of the state in the next 2 days.
The rains are expected due to a cyclonic circulation over south Tamil Nadu in the next 48 hours.
In a release, Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) said, "A cyclonic circulation lies over south Tamil Nadu & neighbourhood extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level. Yesterday’s trough/wind discontinuity now runs from the cyclonic circulation over central Madhya Pradesh to the cyclonic circulation over south Interior Tamilnadu & neighbourhood across interior Maharashtra and interior Karnataka at 0.9 km above mean sea level."
As a result, the IMD said, light to moderate rain in a few places with thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places is likely to occur over Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.
The RMC also issued a thunderstorm warning for the state stating that light to moderate rains are expected over a few places with thunderstorm and lightning.
Gusty wind speed in the range of 30 to 40 kmph is also expected at isolated places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the next two days.
Weather officials have also predicted that due to the rains in the next 48 hours maximum temperature will be around 36 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature will be around 27 degree Celsius.
An independent weather blogger, Chennai rains said, "With the influence of Westerly Trough fading #Thunderstorms are expected to shift closer to the Ghats in #TamilNadu, traditional LWD Zone, with coasts gradually returning to drier #Weather. Good news though is Easterlies can keep a check on temp. #COMK."
