IMD Issues Thunderstorm Warning For TN, Puducherry For Next 3 Hours As Rain Batters Region
IMD has issued fresh thunderstorms and light to moderate rain warnings for several districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
India Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the next three hours as rain continues to pound the region. According to the weatherman, moderate thunderstorms and lightning with moderate rain are likely at isolated places over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpatti districts in the state.
IMD said light thunderstorm and lightning with light to moderate rain is very likely at isolated places over Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Mayuladuthurai among other districts.

Due to heavy rain in the region, Chennai District Collector has announced a holiday in all schools in the city, reported ANI. This comes after schools were shut following heavy downpour in the state leading to waterlogging and massive traffic congestion at various places.

Meanwhile, PTI reported that ten people were rescued by officials following a landslide in Chengalkombai area near Coonoor.

Mettupalayam in Coimbatore received the season’s heaviest rainfall of 37cm over the last 24 hours on Friday. Several places in Coimbatore reported waterlogging causing traffic snarls. The road near Ramanathupuram was inundated following heavy rainfall.
Indian Railways suspended train services on the Nilgiri Mountain Rail Route due to landslides. The railway track between Kallar and Runnimedu in Hillguro was blocked after mudslides in the region. Nilgiri District Collector said all government and private schools will remain closed in Coonoor and Kotagiri on Friday.
