On Monday, the Income Tax sleuths started raids at over 50 locations connected to G Square Realtors. The IT conducted searches across cities such as Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Bangalore, Mysore and Bellary.
The firm is said to have close links with DMK. The IT searched residence of Praveen, a cousin of TN CM Stalin's son-in-law Sabareesan, in the state. It also searched DMK MLA Mohan and his son Karthik's residence (one of the shareholders in G Square) in Chennai's Anna Nagar, G Square Bala (another partner), Auditor Shanmugam's residence at Anna Nagar, G Square offices at Chennai's Chetpet, Alwarpet, as well as Coimbatore and Trichy were searched.
However, G Square denied the links with DMK.
The raids come Tamil Nadu BJP alleged scams by DMK. The BJP released "DMK files" alleging the corruption and also named G Square firm.
At a press conference earlier this month, Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai alleged that the DMK received "kickbacks of Rs 200 crore" from an MNC through two shell firms. He also said that the sum was used by "TN Chief Minister M K Stalin as 2011 election fund for DMK".
Annamalai also said that he would lodge a complaint with the CBI seeking a probe into the matter.
