During their march towards the Secretariat, the party workers were stopped near Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore. The protesters hurled slippers at the police, following which there was a shuffle. Later, the police brought the situation under control.

During the protest, Annamalai demanded that the ruling DMK government should fulfill its promises made before the elections. "DMK promised in their manifesto that they will reduce the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 4 respectively. PM Modi has reduced fuel prices twice. We demand the state govt to fulfill what it has promised in its manifesto," the Tamil Nadu BJP chief said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
