New Delhi: Cases were registered against 5,000 people, including Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai and former national secretary H Raja, for protesting and marching towards the state secretariat in Chennai against the hike in petrol and diesel prices.
On Tuesday, TN BJP president Annamalai led a massive protest along with the BJP cadres in the state demanding that the DMK government must reduce the price of petrol by Rs 5 per litre and diesel price by Rs 4 per litre.

During their march towards the Secretariat, the party workers were stopped near Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore. The protesters hurled slippers at the police, following which there was a shuffle. Later, the police brought the situation under control.
During the protest, Annamalai demanded that the ruling DMK government should fulfill its promises made before the elections. "DMK promised in their manifesto that they will reduce the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 4 respectively. PM Modi has reduced fuel prices twice. We demand the state govt to fulfill what it has promised in its manifesto," the Tamil Nadu BJP chief said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
