Former MP Masthan Murder Case: Police Arrest His Younger Brother In Chennai
Earlier, police arrested Adambasha's son-in-law Imran Basha and four others for the murder of Masthan.
Chennai: The brother of former Tamil Nadu MP D. Masthan was arrested in connection with the death of the ex-MP on Friday. The investigation into the death of the former MP took a turn after his brother Ghouse Adambasha confessed to having killed him on Friday.
Earlier, police arrested Adambasha's son-in-law Imran Basha and four others for the murder of Masthan.
In December 2022, Masthan was allegedly taken to a private hospital for chest pain. However, the doctors declared him brought dead. Following this, the police registered a case and started the investigation. They suspected that the death could have been a murder.
On Friday. a police officer talking to IANS said, "Imran Basha confessed that the murder was plotted and executed by Imran, his father-in-law and his associates because of a dispute over an ancestral property, apart from pestering them to repay a debt. Ghouse Adambasha was arrested and remanded on Thursday as he has also admitted to the crime."
It all started on December 22, Imran and four others allegedly smothered Masthan to death since he allegedly kept pestering Imran to pay Rs 15 lakh that he received as a debt from the ex-MP. However, he informed the family members that Masthan suffered a seizure and chest pains while traveling in the car with them. However, an autopsy report revealed that he was smothered to death.

Masthan served as a Rajya Sabha MP from 1995 to 2001 while he was in the AIADMK. Later, he switched his support to DMK. After a while, Masthan was secretary of the party's minority wing and he was serving as vice chairman of the TN Minorities Commission at the time of his death.
