Amid the sudden increase in temperature, Elephant Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in M.R. Palayam, Tiruchirappalli, has implemented special measures to help elephants cope with the heat. The measures include shower baths, mud baths, and swimming pools to lower body temperatures. The center provides care for 11 elephants which were previously owned by individuals who did not have the proper licenses or provide adequate care. The elephants are provided with balanced diets and veterinary care.
Talking to ANI, Forest veterinary doctor Kalaivannan said, "We have been running an Elephant Rescue and Rehabilitation camp in M.R. Palayam reserve forest. We have 11 elephants here now. These elephants were brought from private owners who did not have licenses or those who were not maintaining the elephants well. The camp has been running here since 2019. We have all the facilities that are needed for the elephants."
"We feed them on an everyday basis with a mix of grains, vegetables, fruits and other diet as prescribed by the veterinarian. We have a visiting veterinarian who comes in almost every week," he said.

The forest officials also make shower baths, mud baths and even swimming pools available for the elephants to lower their body temperatures. District Forest Officer of Trichy, Krithiga said, "Tiruchirappalli forest division has been running an elephant rescue and rehabilitation camp in M.R. Palayam reserve forest. We have all the facilities that are needed for the elephants. To tackle summer heat, we have recently installed a mini shower. There is a swimming pool bathing routine in the morning and mini shower facilities in the evening."
