DMK, BJP Spar Over PM Modi's Picture At Public Distribution Shop In Trichy

The BJP members alleged that Trichy Corporation Councillor Ramadoss of ward 55 and two others threw one of the images of PM Modi into the drain.

Chennai: The BJP and DMK members sparred against each other over displaying Prime Minister Narendra Modi's image in a cooperative fair price shop in Trichy. While BJP members wanted to place the image at the shop, DMK members protested against placing the image at the shop.

According to Times of India, BJP urban district president S Rajasekaran alleged, Trichy Corporation Councillor Ramadoss of ward 55 and two others threw one of the images of PM Modi into the drain.

Till now, BJP put up around 50 pictures in PDS shops of Trichy in order to create awareness about the extension of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY).

In this backdrop, on Wednesday, BJP functionaries led by Mandal president Paramasivam tried to place PM's image at Amaravathi cooperative fair price shop in ward 55.

However, Rajasekaran in his complaint said, DMK councillor V Ramadoss, auto driver Karunanidhi and 'Pandhal' Ramu assaulted BJP workers for trying to put up the picture.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Cantonment Range, MV Ajay Thangam said, BJP should have put up the picture only after getting our permission. DMK should also have complained to us before creating a ruckus.

We have no problem in keeping PM Modi's picture but unauthorised people can't keep it without official permission, the cop said.

The preliminary probe is on.

Earlier, PM Modi's picture was placed in Veppathur Town Panchayat office but the panchayat chairman removed the photograph. Following this, a scuffle erupted and PM Modi's image was reinstalled.
