Cyclone Mandous To Weaken Into Depression By Noon, Rain Likely In Parts Of Tamil Nadu, Andhra
Cyclone Mandous: IMD said, "Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over north Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh.”
Chennai: Cyclone Mandous weakened into a deep depression over North Tamil Nadu and it is likely to move west-northwestwards and gradually weaken into a Depression by noon of December 10, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday.
The IMD said, “The cyclonic storm “Mandous” pronounced as “Man-Dous” over north coastal Tamil Nadu moved northwestwards with a speed of 15 kmph during past 06 hours and weakened into a Deep Depression over north Tamil Nadu and lay centered at 0530 hrs IST of 10th December near latitude 13.0°N and longitude 79.7°E, about 70 km northwest of Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram) and 50 km west of Chennai.”
“It is very likely to move nearly west-northwestwards and gradually weaken into a Depression by noon of 10th December,” it said.
On the rainfall prediction for December 10, IMD said, “Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over north Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh.”

The fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till Southwest Bay of Bengal till December 10 evening. The sea condition is also likely to be rough to very rough over Southwest Bay of Bengal from December 10 early morning to evening.
Meanwhile, according to ANI, Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) said, “GCC requests all to avoid going out until cyclonic storm 'Mandous' weakens. Almost 65 trees have fallen down in 3 hrs & GCC is taking measures to remove them. Motor pumps are being used to remove water stagnation in low lying saucer shaped areas.”
