It all started last week after temple priests issued a notice that devotees will not be permitted inside the temple to pay obeisance on the occasion of Aani Thirumanjanam. Following this, HR&CE department refused to accept the decision of the temple and told them to provide access to the stage for the devotees.
However, the priests refused to accept the demand of HR&CE officials. The officials said that devotees would be permitted only from June 28.
As a result, on Tuesday night, the officials still visited the temple and climbed on the stage to worship Lord Natarajar. Later, devotees started worshipping from the stage on Wednesday.
However, Chidambaram police booked 10 priests for reportedly stopping HR&CE officials from performing their duty.
TN Minister Sekar Babu also said that efforts are being taken to bring Chidambaram temple under the control of the state.
