Chennai: Three Out Of 10 Patients With Flu Symptoms Test Positive For COVID-19, Says Corporation Data
The Corporation tested 1,497 symptomatic patients who skipped coronavirus testing and found 455 of them to be positive for the virus.
Chennai: Three out of 10 patients with flu-like symptoms test positive for coronavirus in Chennai, revealed the door-to-door testing mechanism by Chennai Corporation.
The civic body identified 1,497 patients based on the data as symptomatic patients who skipped coronavirus testing on January 18. The Corporation tested all the patients and found 455 cases to be positive for the virus.
According to a report on Times of India, the tests taken in zones of Thiru Vi Ka Nagar and Kodambakkam showed that 60% of the patients with symptoms were positive for COVID-19 while 40% of the patients were positive in Teynampet.
The number of patients visiting private hospitals without taking RT-PCR tests has gone up. On January 4, 600 patients visited 533 hospitals but the number rose to 2,000 patients on January 20.
About the data and testing mechanism, Chennai Corporation Commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi said, the zonal officers and entomologists are remaining in constant touch with private hospitals and are testing the patients.

As of Friday, Adyar had the highest number of active coronavirus cases in Chennai with 6,859 patients receiving treatment followed by Teynampet with 6,701 patients and Anna Nagar with 6,392 patients.
The Corporation has launched three vechicles with speakers to raise awarness on testing, isolating and vaccination on Friday. The civic body has hired 2,984 volunteers to help with door-to-door testing.
