Chennai: Techie Electrocuted After Coming In Contact With Lamppost Trying To Scale A Median
The mishap took place reportedly since the underground wire connected to the lamppost was not intact.
Chennai: A 34-year-old techie died on Tuesday after he was electrocuted while coming in contact with a livewire while crossing a median at Madippakam. The incident took place while he was crossing the road to reach an eatery on Velachery-Tambaram High Road near Kaiveli.
According to a report on The New Indian Express, the mishap took place reportedly since the underground wire connected to the lamppost was not intact. While the techie was crossing the road, the livewire came in contact with him and reportedly triggered electrocution.
The victim was identified as S Ilavarasan of Ramanathapuram. He was a web designer and was staying with his friends in Pallikaranai.
On Tuesday, Ilavarasan and his friends decided to go to an eatery for dinner. They took their car and parked it on Velachery-Tambaram High Road near Kaiveli bus stop. They then decided to cross the road to reach the eatery on the other side of the road.

Two of his friends crossed the road. Later, Ilavarasan and his other friend started to cross the road when Ilavarasan came in contact with a lampost, suffered an electric shock and fell on the ground.
His friends immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital. However, he was declared dead and his body was sent to Chromepet Government Hospital for autopsy.

Later, the police informed Chennai Corporation about the incident.
The Corporation Commissioner told the EB to file a report from the electrical department. The Corporation told The New Indian Express that they are waiting for a report and are investigating the cause of the incident.
The Madipakkam police registered a case under Section 174 of the CPCr.
