Chennai: DMK Ward Secretary Hacked To Death By Unidentified Men, Probe On

The ward secretary Selvam was expected to be fielded as a candidate for urban local body elections on February 19.

Chennai: A DMK ward secretary was hacked to death in full public view by a four-member gang on Rajaji road in Chennai on Tuesday. It may be noted that Selvam was expected to be fielded as a candidate for urban local body elections on February 19.

According to a report on The Hindu, the victim identified as Selvam was the 188 ward secretary from DMK party. On Tuesday, while he was traveling on Rajaji road, four men stopped his vehicle and hacked him to death in full public view. 

The four unidentified men then fled the spot. Based on the information, Madipakkam police reached the spot and started the probe.

They also sent the body of Selvam for autopsy. 

However, the police are yet to find the reason behind the murder. 

Selvam is the second DMK cadre to be murdered within a span of three days. Earlier, Ponnudas from Tirunelveli was killed on Sunday. A group of people traveling in a car ran over him and then got down and attacked him until he passed away on the spot.

The 38th ward secretary of DMK party was ready for the interview for the party ticket the next day but was hacked to death on Sunday.

The DMK has been announcing party candidates for the urban local body polls set to be conducted on February 19 and the counting of votes to be taken on February 22.
