3.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Tamil Nadu's Chengalpattu

The Chengalpattu district was also recently battered by Cyclone Michaung. 

Chengalpattu district, located in close proximity to Chennai, experienced a mild earthquake on Friday morning. The seismic activity, registered at a magnitude of 3.2 by the National Center for Seismology, occurred at 7:39 am and originated at a depth of 10 km. There were no casualties or damage due to the earthquake.

According to National Centre for Seismology, "Earthquake of Magnitude:3.2, Occurred on 08-12-2023, 07:39:22 IST, Lat: 12.50 & Long: 79.85, Depth: 10 Km ,Location: Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, India."

The Chengalpattu district was also recently battered by Cyclone Michaung. 

Similarly, an earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale was documented in Vijayapura, Karnataka. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) released a statement noting that comparable magnitudes of earthquakes were also reported at Shillong in Meghalaya and Rajkot in Gujarat underscoring a series of seismic occurrences. The NCS said, "Earthquake of Magnitude:3.1, Occurred on 08-12-2023, 06:52:21 IST, Lat: 16.77 & Long: 75.87, Depth: 10 Km ,Location: Vijayapura, Karnataka, India."

Meanwhile, Central Mexico also recently felt the tremors of a 5.8-magnitude earthquake on the Richter Scale, prompting individuals to quickly evacuate buildings and congregate on the streets for safety. Taking to X, USGS Earthquakes said, "Notable quake, preliminary info: M 5.8 - 10 km NNE of Chiautla de Tapia, Mexico."

According to ANI, Head of Government of Mexico City Matri Batres said that till now no damages were reported in Mexico City. Further, he said that he received a call from Mexico President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on the possible damages caused by the earthquake. However, he said that he informed the President that all services were functioning normally.
