'Action Will Be Taken If Proven Guilty': TN CM Stalin On Kalakshetra Foundation Sexual Harassment Case

TN CM Stalin also informed the Assembly that the NCW Chairperson who initially wrote to DGP has sent another letter that their inquiry is over and that they haven't found any evidence.

Amid ongoing protest by students of Kalakshetra Insitute over the lack of action in a sexual harassment case against a professor, Tamil Nadu CM Stalin on Friday assured that appropriate action would be taken against the alleged perpetrators if proven guilty. However, the CM also said Tamil Nadu police did not receive any official complaint from the Kalakshetra student union.

On Kalakshetra alleged sexual harassment case, TN CM MK Stalin said, “If proven guilty, appropriate action would be taken against the alleged perpetrators. All measures are taken to ensure the safety of women protesters. Tamil Nadu police did not receive any official written complaint from the Kalakshetra student union.”

“NCW Chairperson who initially wrote to DGP has sent another letter that their inquiry is over and that they haven't found any evidence,” the CM said.

Stalin said that a team visited the campus and held talks with the students on Friday. The team included Revenue Divisional Officer, Tahsildar, Joint Police Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner of Police and officers.

The students of Kalakshetra started a protest on Thursday morning over the inaction of the institute on a complaint by the students against a male professor. 

In a circular, the principal said, “Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts will remain closed from 5.15 pm today to April 6. All inmates are requested to vacate the hostel within two days with immediate effect." 

Following the protest, Kalakshetra issued a statement that they are closing down for a period between March 30 and April 6, 2023. 

The Kalakshetra Educational Institute operates under the control of central government.
