UP Woman Allegedly Beaten And Assaulted By Six Men, Threatens To Self-Immolate If Police Didn't Take Action
The woman accused police of not taking any action against the accused. She claimed that she was humiliated and if the police refuse to take any action she has no option but to end her life.
A woman in UP’s Pilibhit was allegedly beaten and her clothes were torn off by a group of people who barged into her house for "refusing an out of court settlement" in a criminal case filed by her husband against them, according to a PTI report. The incident took place in a village under the Neuria police station limits on Monday. The video of the incident was posted on social media and has become viral. The woman later went to the police station and demanded action, at one point she threatened self-immolation along with her children if the accused are not arrested.
The woman claimed that on July 31 "six men from her village barged into her house and outraged her modesty as her husband had filed a criminal case of arson and an attempt to murder charge against them in December 2021 after they tried to grab his land. The accused were arrested and released on bail, and since then, have been exerting pressure on the couple to settle the matter out of court.”
She further accused the police of not taking any action against the accused. She claimed that she was humiliated and if the police refuse to take any action she has no option but to end her life, reported a Times Of India report.
Superintendent of Police Atul Sharma said that Circle Officer of Sadar area Prateek Dahiya has been asked to investigate the case.
The video was made by some villagers of the woman being thrashed, which was then uploaded on social media.
According to Times Of India, the woman alleged that she filed a police complaint but cops lodged an FIR under IPC sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and not for molestation and stripping.
Sharma told TOI that if these allegations are told, the culprits will not be spared, he added, that all appropriate charges will be added based on the CO’s report.
