Uttarakhand: College Building Collapses As Rain Wreaks Havoc In Dehradun — Watch

A college building collapsed due to heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand's Dehradun.

A college building collapsed as incessant rainfall wreaked havoc in Uttarakhand's Dehradun, the news agency ANI reported on Monday. Speaking on the devastation caused in the hill state due to the heavy downpour, DGP Uttarakhand Ashok Kumar said that the weather department has issued a red alert, and at all the places the roads are closed and the police and SDRF team are on alert.

"The weather department issued a red alert. Since 12th August there was heavy rainfall, especially in the Garhwal area. At all the places the roads are closed and the police and SDRF team are on alert. In the Chamoli and Uttarkashi Mori area, there was a cloudburst. In Rishikesh, there's huge waterlogging. We appeal to all the people to not go to hilly regions," Ashok Kumar said, as quoted by ANI.

Meanwhile, the water level of the Nandakini River crossed the danger mark in the Nandanagar area in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli on Sunday night due to incessant rainfall, Chamoli Police said, as reported by news agency ANI. River water entered many houses, and people left their homes and took shelter in safe places, the police said.

Last week, heavy rains caused severe waterlogging in the Dhalwala and Khara areas of Rishikesh on Wednesday night. Many houses submerged in water as the water level in the Rishikesh saline source rose, ANI reported citing officials.
