Uttar Pradesh: Yogi Govt Imposes Ban On Liquor, Meat Trade In Mathura

UP Chief Minister, speaking at a Krishnotsava 2021 function in Mathura, said those engaged in the liquor and meat trade may take up "selling milk in order to revive the glory of Mathura."

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday imposed a complete ban on the sale of liquor and meat in Mathura. Officers have been directed by the Chief Minister to make plans for implementing the ban as well as create other engagement options for those plying in these trades.

UP Chief Minister, speaking at a Krishnotsava 2021 function in Mathura, said those engaged in the liquor and meat trade may take up "selling milk in order to revive the glory of Mathura."

"Every effort will be made to develop Brij Bhumi and there will be no dearth of funds for this. We are looking at a blend of modern technology and the cultural and spiritual heritage for the development of the region," Yogi Adityanath said during the function, reports PTI.

The decision to ban the meat and liquor trade in Mathura has been welcomed by Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) party in Bihar. HAM spokesperson Danish Rizwan on Tuesday said the decision to ban liquor was taken after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar "did it first".

"Nitish Kumar's vision has made it clear that which Bihar thinks first, the whole country and the whole world thinks it later," he said in a statement.

Danish Rizwan appealed to other states for taking the decision to ban liquor.

“I appeal to other states to accept the decision of prohibition and implement it. Only then a strong and empowered India will be built," he said.
